First four – relationship with us to God.

 

   Next six – relationship with relationship with others.

 

How can the Lord be pleased with the second set

if we are not first and adequately living out the first set?

 

“I am the Lord your God”

 

 

 

1 - "You shall have no other gods before Me.” - 3

 

 

 

 

 

ð 2 – Idol – replaces God  – 4-6

 

 

 

ð 3 – Misuse God’s name – replaces God’s

 

rightful position  - 7

 

 

 

ð 4 – Rest – replaces God’s agenda  – 8-11

 

 

 

ð 5 – Honor Mom and Dad – replaces God’s

 

hierarchy  - 12

 

 

ð 6 – Murder – replaces God’s sovereignty  - 13

 

 

ð 7 - Commit adultery – replaces God’s

 

blueprint  - 14

 

 

 

ð 8 – Steal – replaces God’s boundaries- 15

 

 

 

ð 9 – Lie – replaces God’s truth - 16

 

 

 

10 – Covet – replaces God’s wisdom- 17

 

 

What difference do the 10 commandments make?  Really?!?!

* answer: they show our inadequacy, our inability to survive on our own,

and our complete and utter dependence on God

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jesus replied (to the Sadducees, and Pharisees):

" ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'  

 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."   - Matthew 22:37

 

 

18-19-20 –  …that it would remain!

God being in the center…

not “at the top of the list”
